Wayne James was born in Houston, Texas, and has lived in and about Houston his entire life, except during military service.

He went to local public schools, before joining the  U. S. Army in 1977. .After working for the family business for a few years, he returned to school.

While always pursuing his writing, he developed a great need to know more about the craft. He graduated an Associate of Arts at Alvin Community College, where he also took a certificate in computer science, before going on to complete a Bachelor of Science and later a Master of Arts at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Ernest Hemingway, Franz Kafka, Raymond Chandler, Philip Dick, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, and Robert Heinlein are among his  favorite authors. He has written in several genres, including crime and literary fiction as well as poetry and nonfiction. 

His fiction first appeared in Raconteur in 1995 and since has been published numerous times: in Hadrosaur Tales 5 and 7, Bayousphere, and in the Write Gallery e-zine. His poetry first appeared in the small press magazine Lucidity in 1996 and has been published numerous times since.
